He Loves Me

IMG_3101I don’t know what I did to deserve such a great guy, but I am so thankful for him.  We definitely don’t get it right all the time, but we are trying hard!  He takes such great care of me and loves me so sweetly all the time, but here are a couple pictures of things that he has done lately I wanted to remember down the road…

You can never go wrong with pretty flowers!  Especially when they are “No Reason” flowers.  Just a sweet surprise to show he was thinking about me.  And these might be some of the prettiest he has ever gotten me!

And if you thought the flowers were good… check out this heart-shaped pile of folded laundry I came home to find!  Complete with a sweet note in the middle.  If you know Murray, you know the one chore he really dislikes is laundry.  This was a special gift!

For Mother’s Day he (and the kids) gave me such a thoughtful gift… a couple of birdfeeders right outside our big window in the dining room.  The birds didn’t come right away, but he has been so consistent in filling the feeders so now there are birds all the time.  We have seen several hummingbirds, bluejays, a cardinal, and some other little birds that Cole says are chickadees.  Knowing how much that kids knows about animals, they probably are chickadees.  Haha.  Despite how packed Murray’s schedule is and his long list of things to do, he knows how much I love watching those birds and always makes sure there is food for them.  It’s the little things that are big things… you know?

I love this man more than words can say, and I am so thankful to walk this journey with him.

Love the Weekends!

IMG_3057

We love weekends at our house because they mean lots of family time!  We have made an effort to just be together the past few weekends and only take on a few things so that we aren’t too crazy.  We love to have fun together, but we would also like to feel a little rested before we start the next week!  Weekend before last, we had a really great weekend.  Time all together, time for just Murray and me, organized play, free play, exercise and rest…

While Kyndall and I enjoyed some early morning snuggles, the other 4 were busy making a yummy breakfast!

Hayes and Daddy played with his farm animals for the longest time, and Cole and Jordan made up their own game… not sure exactly what it was, but they were having so much fun!

IMG_3066 IMG_3071

Then my sister Neesha and Jordan had a My Little Pony party while Cole whooped me in a game of Guess Who!

We may have stayed in our pjs a LONG time, but what are lazy Saturday mornings for if not swinging on the front porch and snuggling!

IMG_3072 IMG_3073

That afternoon, Neesha stayed at our house with a sleeping Hayes while the rest of us walked down the street to our neighbor’s pool.  The kids had a blast, and Jordan really up’d her swimming game!  Cole showed off on the diving board, and Kyndall had a nap in the shade.  :)

Saturday Murray and I got to go on a double date with some friends from church… with no kids!  It was SO fun.  We ate at the Arcade downtown and walked over to Beale St. to grab a shake from A. Schwab’s.  We got lucky and were able to watch the Beale St. Flippers perform while we were there!  Such a great night.  Special thanks to our fun sitter Emma for taking care of the big 3, and sweet Aunt Kelsey for loving on Kyndall!

After church Sunday, we fulfilled a lifelong dream for the kids… a lemonade stand!  They were SO excited, and I was so nervous that we wouldn’t have anyone stop.  Haha.  Much to my surprise, they had tons of people stop and ran out of lemonade!  I should have known the cuteness would draw people in!  That and the arms waving in the air while “Free Lemonade” was being shouted at them!  Haha.  The lemonade was free, but they did have a tip jar ready- just in case!  They made like $25, and they are planning to give it to our Care Ministry at church.  Love their sweet hearts!

We finished the weekend with some stories and extra snuggling before bedtime.

We are always so sad when Monday rolls around, and Daddy has to go back to work.  Thankful he has a great job that he loves, but life would be pretty great if he could just stay home with us all everyday!!!  ;)

The Fall…

IMG_2857

VBS started out with a lot of excitement!  My sister’s congregation was having a LION KING Vacation Bible School, and my kids are pretty much obsessed with that movie right now.  They were pumped about their cool animal masks, the skit at the beginning of the night, Luke (aka Uncle Smith) having conversations with Simba, and the cool crafts they made.  Hayes even got really into the fun too!

IMG_2864IMG_2871 IMG_2868

Unfortunately the second night ended with some drama!  Jordan was running, tripped over an extension cord, and face planted a chair.  I ran over thinking a normal busted lip, but instead I saw two of her teeth lying on the floor!  Talk about a freak out moment for me!  Not only that, but her lip was completely split.  I immediately told my sister to call Murray and have him meet us at the ER.  There was no doubt in my mind that she needed stitches.  I never suspected 16!

IMG_2914 IMG_2917 IMG_2920 IMG_2923

The poor girl was amazing!  She was so tough… only cried until we got to the car to go to the hospital and then fell asleep on the way!  Especially once Daddy met us there, she was super brave and did awesome the whole time in the ER.  Murray even had her laughing at his goofy self and playing with a balloon glove that he blew up for her.  Super dad for sure!  She woke up happy the next day and excited about the stuffed animal they gave her.

IMG_2926 IMG_2930

She was also pretty pumped to realize she had lost 2 teeth and would get to leave them for the tooth fairy!  Cole was pretty jealous!  Murray got her a special bag to put the teeth in, and the tooth fairy brought her a pretty necklace and some money!  I guess the tooth fairy does it big when your teeth are knocked right out of your mouth!

She is healing beautifully, and you can already hardly tell- except for her missing teeth!

IMG_3166

I have had so many people ask me how I held it together.  I did have several moments where I felt panic creeping in and had to remind myself to breathe slowly because I needed to be brave for her, but I really feel like I did ok because I saw God caring for us through the whole situation.  I realize this injury was not life threatening and could have been so much worse, but it’s our family’s worst boo-boo yet and still kind of makes me feel sick when I really think about it.  I feel guilty that I was the one there when it happened even though I couldn’t have stopped it, and I know it wasn’t my fault- just a bad accident. But I have to say that seeing God providing and so obviously answering my prayers through it all is what really brought me to tears.

First, we had an amazing group of people around when it happened.  My sister, brother-in-law, and one of my high school best friends were all there to help me stay calm, watch my other kids, call Murray, and drive us to the ER.

Second, we walked into an empty waiting room.  Not only did that mean less of a wait for us, it also meant less yucky germs I had to worry about since Kyndall was with us.

Third, the staff was excellent.  When Jordan was scared for the nurse to clean it or put the numbing medicine on it, the nurse allowed Murray to do it.  When the ER doctor needed to remove the tegaderm, but Jordan was too nervous, again he let Murray do it.  Jordan was a lot less upset about Murray taking care of her than strangers, and it meant a lot for them to let Daddy handle it.

Fourth, I asked and asked about them calling in a plastic surgeon and if they would sedate her for the stitches.  Once the ER doctor came in and saw it, he immediately asked if we were ok to wait for him to call in a plastic surgeon.  Um, yes!  Not only did we get a plastic surgeon, we got the plastic surgeon.  The one on call was a friend of Murray’s and who he would have taken her to had it not been an emergency.  AND he immediately ordered intranasal versed… hallelujah!  (This was the part where I finally started crying- out of sheer relief and gratitude for answered prayers!)  Jordan literally snored through the whole thing… no fear or anxiety!

She did have some pain afterward, but she responded really well to Advil.  She did say a couple funny things coming off the versed.  The next morning while getting dressed she said, “Wait, is it tomorrow?”  When I told her it was, she said, “Hmmmm.  I don’t get it.”  Haha.  She also said “Mom, do you know that chairs have legs?  Not walking legs like ours, but they really do have legs.”  I think she has never been more sure of that fact since the proof literally smacked her right in the face.  She is so stinkin’ tough!  Even when it came time to remove the external stitches, she was so brave and laid perfectly still on the table for them.

Thanks to everyone who helped us out- getting kids taken care of, driving us to the ER, praying, giving dental advice, texting to check on all of us, etc.  It meant so much!  I am so proud of my baby girl and so thankful to God for taking care of us all!  That being said, it was sickening and terrible, and I am definitely praying for no more trips to the ER for our crew!

Our Daddy is the Best!

IMG_2833

We have been blessed with the perfect Daddy for us!  He is so fun, kind, patient, silly, loving, snuggly, and intentional.  He loves us (and there are a lot of us) so well!  We are excited he is our Daddy everyday, but we were extra excited to have a special day to celebrate him!

Cole and Jordan were up early so we surprised him with breakfast in bed!  Scrambled eggs and toast!  Cole even made him a special napkin! :)

IMG_2830IMG_2825

That afternoon, everyone gave him his presents.  They were so proud of the frame that they had made for him.  He also got a new automatic gate opener since his old one had stopped working and a gift certificate to try out the new ropes course in Shelby Farms!

IMG_2817

His favorite present of the day may have been the foot rub that Jordan volunteered to give him.  She is such a sweetie pie and LOVES her Daddy!

Murray, you truly are a wonderful father.  I am SO thankful that you are the daddy to our sweet babies.  You are a huge part of why they are so happy, precious, and fun.  I can’t thank you enough for the way that you spend time loving on each of them and how well you show them their value.  You lead our family as God calls you to, and we see Him reflecting in you- the way you serve, the way you love, the way you live.  Thank you for that example most of all.  We LOVE you!
